Increased expression of cytokine receptors in ventricular wall explants after stimulation with NA. The expression of two cytokine receptors, IL-1βR1 and TNFαR1, was evaluated by qPCR in control and NA-treated rat brain explants obtained from the wall of the lateral ventricles of adult rats. The mRNA levels were expressed relative to GAPDH mRNA. Bars are the mean + s.d. of n = 6 independent experiments with explants obtained from different rats. Kruskal–Wallis test showed significant differences (P < 0.001); both receptors were up-regulated after NA treatment. Letters a and b above bars indicate the absence (if the same letter appears) or presence (if different letters appear) of a statistical difference, analysed by Mann–Whitney pairwise comparisons.
