Primary brain endothelial cells co-cultured with astrocytes and pericytes on inserts were treated with 100 µM kainate (KA) without or with simvastatin (SIM, 1 µM), edaravone (EDA, 1 µM) or dexamethasone (DXM, 1 µM) for 24 h. Control groups (C) received only culture medium. Mean ± SEM, n = 3–9, ANOVA, Bonferroni-test, **p < 0.01 compared to the control; #p < 0.05, ###p < 0.001 compared to the kainate- treated group. Permeability is expressed as apparent permeability coefficient (Papp) in the  % of the control values
