Mats Tullberg is Associate Professor and Senior Consultant in Neurology, Department of Neurology, Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden. He was former Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Former Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Former president, Nordic Hydrocephalus Academy. His research focus is on pathophysiological, diagnostic and clinical aspects of hydrocephalus, specifically normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), other CSF dynamic and neurodegenerative CNS disorders. His thesis, "White matter pathology in normal pressure hydrocephalus and subcortical arteriosclerotic encephalopathy: clinical, CSF and MRI aspects" was defended in 2001 and followed by a year as post-doc at UC Davis, California. He is presently heading the Hydrocephalus research unit, Sahlgrenska Academy/Sahlgrenska University Hospital.

He has published papers on CSF biomarkers and MR/neuroimaging characterising NPH and different neurodegenerative disorders such as subcortical vascular dementia, also several studies describing pathophysiological, clinical, diagnostic and predictive aspects of NPH and associated co-morbidities. Recent studies have addressed the use CSF biochemical and MR perfusion methods for prediction of outcome after shunt therapy in NPH and the relationship to Alzheimer’s disease pathology.
