Helle Damkier received a medical degree from Aarhus University, Denmark in 2006. She was awarded the PhD degree in medicine in 2010. After a year of clinical training and 4 years as an assistant professor, she became associate professor at the department of cellular and molecular medicine, University of Copenhagen, Denmark in 2014. In 2017, she was recruited back to Aarhus University where she is now associate professor and group leader of a choroid plexus and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) research group.

Helle Damkier is an expert in water and solute transport of the choroid plexus. Her research group is devoted to understanding the role of water and solute transporters in the choroid plexus. Her group specifically investigates the role of membrane transporters involved in both the secretion and pH regulation of CSF by the choroid plexus. Using in vivo and in vitro methods, the groups specifically aims to define the role of acid-base transporters involved in CSF regulation in health and disease.
