Ventricular, preoperative CSF concentrations of ECM proteins in relation to cardiovascular disease comorbidity as a single risk factor. Brevican and neurocan peptide levels were increased in patients who suffered from CVD comorbidity. Mann–Whitney test was applied to investigate the differences between the patients who did (CVD + ; n = 9) and did not (CVD-; n = 22) suffer from cardiovascular disease (CVD). The two groups were age- and gender-matched. A representative peptide of brevican (B156) and of neurocan (N194) has been displayed (see Additional file 1: Fig. S3 for all peptides)
