Schematic of the CP with the distribution of the transporters discussed in this paper [1, 39, 42]. For Aqp1, the distribution is primarily apical (CSF-facing) but some has been described on the basolateral membrane [1]. An apical and subapical distribution of Mdr1 has been reported [38]. However, it should be noted that the levels of Mdr1 at the CP are much lower than that found at the BBB.
