In addition to tight junctions (red) that prevent non-specific paracellular diffusion, a wide variety of multispecific efflux transporters (green), as well as antioxidant and drug metabolizing enzymes (blue), participate in the neuroprotective and detoxifying functions of the choroid plexus.
