Dr. Servio H. Ramirez is a tenured Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA).  Dr. Ramirez is the Director of the Histopathology Research Core (Department of Pathology) and holds secondary faculty appointments at the Shriners Hospitals Pediatric Research Center and at the Center for Substance Abuse research, located at LKSOM.  Dr. Ramirez received his Bachelor of Science degree in Genetic Engineering/Biotechnology from the Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, NY) and received both his Master of Science and Doctorate degrees in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (Rochester, NY).  Dr. Ramirez’s laboratory focuses on various areas of biomedical research including: infectious diseases of the CNS, substance abuse, traumatic brain injury, tissue engineering and gene therapy.  In the context of the above, Dr. Ramirez’s laboratory is committed to a better understanding of neuroinflammation, biomarker discovery, characterization of novel therapeutics and the improved modeling of the neurovascular unit.
