David Bueno is currently Lecturer in Genetics, Department of Genetics, University of Barcelona, and founder member of the Opinion Group for Integrated Neurosciences on Psychopathology and Human Conflicts. He received a BSc degree in Biology and PhD in Genetics (University of Barcelona). His PhD Thesis was awarded with the Extraordinary Doctoral Award from the Faculty of Biology and it also got an honour mention at the Doctors Senate Awards form University of Barcelona.
He started research on central nervous system development and regeneration in lower vertebrates at the University of Barcelona. In 1995 he moved to the University of Oxford to work on vertebrate brain development. In 2000 he got a permanent position at Barcelona University, and started research on embryonic cerebrospinal fluid formation during early embryonic development in vertebrates, including the development of the blood-brain and blood-CSF barriers. He has published 60 research papers and book chapters.
Since 2001, he is also engaged in Public Science Communication. He has published over 400 papers in general journals and newspapers, and over 10 books on science spreading. He has also contributed to several Encyclopaedias. In 2010 he was awarded with the European Award for Science Communication.
