He has received Honorary Degrees in Medicine from Universidad de Salamanca (1996) and in Science from Universidad de Málaga (1999).

Fifty years ago, he started research on circumventricular organs, median eminence and subcommissural organ in particular, at Universidad Nacional de Cuyo and University of Bristol. He has worked with many of the pioneers in the field of neurosecretion, brain peptides, blood-brain-barrier and CSF. During the past 25 years he has been involved in the elucidation of the nature and function of the proteins secreted by the subcommissural organ into the CSF. Once his group and others found that abnormalities of the subcommissural organ might be associated to the onset of congenital hydrocephalus, he progressively became involved in hydrocephalus research, both, in animals models and humans.
